As a RESEARCH ASSISTANT: FIELD/GREENHOUSE SUPPORT with Seminis, you will have the opportunity to work closely with researchers from diverse disciplines, providing exposure to a wide array of plant biology research. Through this work, you will contribute to the development of new commercial melon varieties.
In this role the candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Assist the melon breeder in the active functions of a plant breeding program. Duties include seed processing and packaging, seed storage management, seed planting and harvest.
- Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting. Duties include such activities as collecting data for PVP, plant phenotypic ratings, assisting with data analysis as assigned, and actively participating in safety meetings and reviews.
- Supervisory duties: Supervise labor crews for planting, harvesting, and transplanting, as needed.
- Assist with field trials and greenhouse cycles. Package seed, put packets in planting order, help plant.
- Utilize proprietary software applications for data and inventory management
The successful candidate will possess the following experience/skills:
- B.S. degree in an agricultural discipline
- Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
- Results/detail-orientation and the ability to thrive in a dynamic and ever changing work environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with employees from other departments to achieve common objectives.
- Travel will be minimal (0 to 2%)
- Relocation will not be covered.
Desired skills/education/experience/attributes:
- Bilingual (Spanish / English)
- Minimum of 2-3 years experience
- Experience working with relational database software.
